Links: Dragons, Retirement Plans, & More

July 10, 2019

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links! This is where we share awesome things we’ve seen on the internet. It’s also a nice reminder to take a moment during your day for yourself. But hey, I’m not your dad. You can spend your afternoon break however you like. Just make good choices, as I say to my brother. WHO IS IN THAILAND RIGHT NOW LIVING HIS BEST LIFE. (not that I’m bitter.)

Shark Week is cool and everything, but did you know Tor is hosting a Dragon Week?!

Were you glued to the Women’s World Cup like I was? While all of the athletes played their hearts out, there are still several issues with how women’s soccer is positioned in the larger world of sports:

It’s a tragedy that FIFA, the pompous and corrupt governing body of the sport, had to be pushed, kicking and screaming, into ever actually holding a World Cup for the women. The first official FIFA Women’s World Cup wasn’t held until 1991. Today, FIFA still offers the men’s World Cup $410 million more in prize money than it awards the Women’s World Cup — a gap that actually widened just last year.

Perhaps I’m optimistic and this year’s exposure will change things, or at least nudge them in the right direction. Regardless, I’m dying to get a jersey, but those things are selling like hot cakes.

I am obsessed with this retirement pact these friends have. It would also make a fantastic TV show, a la Golden Girls.

Of course, I’m sure you’ve all seen this modern day Regency dandy, but just in case you haven’t! He has an Instagram account, if you want to see all the costume porn.

I hereby decree that all recipes should include puppies!

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
