This HaBO comes from Luz, who is looking for this historical romance: This is a historical romance book that I read before the year 2012. It starts off with the hero and heroine in love, young and engaged. (19/21 years of age) They are already having sexual encounters. They have a place they meet up at on his estate. Heroine goes there waiting for him, but then a worker from the estate comes on to her and tries kissing her. She starts laughing and giggling because the whole situation seems absurd to her, but when the hero arrives he doesn’t find it funny and just automatically assumes that she has been cheating on him. He walks out and refuses to listen to her. He then leaves. And his mom calls a coach to take her home and the engagement is ended… Then years later they see each other at a weekend house party, where all the guests are staying there. He’s extremely cold to her, but still attracted to her. There’s a closet scene. I vaguely remember it. He still refuses to listen to her and reminds her that he wants her sexually but she lost her chance at marriage….

The Darkling Bride The Darkling Bride by Laura Andersen is $1.99! This is a Gothic mystery set in Ireland with ghosts and crumbling estates. Elyse read this one and wound up giving it a C. She loved the plot setup, but was iffy on its execution. Three generations of Irish nobles face their family secrets in this spellbinding novel from the award-winning author of the Boleyn King trilogy. The Gallagher family has called Deeprath Castle home for seven hundred years. Nestled in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, the estate is now slated to become a public trust, and book lover and scholar Carragh Ryan is hired to take inventory of its historic library. But after meeting Aidan, the current Viscount Gallagher, and his enigmatic family, Carragh knows that her task will be more challenging than she’d thought. Two decades before, Aidan’s parents died violently at Deeprath. The case, which was never closed, has recently been taken up by a new detective determined to find the truth. The couple’s unusual deaths harken back a century, when twenty-three-year-old Lady Jenny Gallagher also died at Deeprath under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind an infant son and her husband, a renowned writer who never published again….

This HaBO is from Susan, who is trying to remember this historical romance: I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember a historical romance I read about five years ago. The hero was a duke or earl and he (I think) was inheriting an estate that required him, for some reason, to marry this girl. She was the daughter or granddaughter of the gentleman who had died and left the estate to this duke/earl. The hero was from London, but this daughter had been raised at her family estate in the country. I think he was a widower (maybe never married) and had been having an affair/mistress/lover with a woman in London, who wants to marry him and become the next duchess. The mistress/lover was a brunette and possessive of him. He is annoyed that he has to marry this young girl but has no choice. The girl is young (18-20) and blonde and, of course, very pretty. She is also a skilled horsewoman and I think also skilled with swords and fencing. Kind of a tomboy. She also wears breeches when she fences and rides. She is accustomed to riding around the estate and one time while she is…

B Every Reason We Shouldn’t by Sara Fujimura March 3, 2020 · Tor Teen RomanceYoung Adult Content warning: Lockdown situation at a high school, emotionally absent/neglectful parents. Also, the main characters are professional athletes and talk/think about food and nutrition in a way that might be triggering for people with eating disorders. The thing that happens when you follow certain romance authors on Twitter for a while is that you find yourself slowly becoming obsessed with figure skating. This is a rather disappointing obsession to have in Australia, where the ISU competitions are generally not broadcast on our free-to-air channels until months after the event, and even then, only partially. And so my new obsession has to manifest itself in other ways, such as by seeking out and devouring figure skating-themed romances… In Every Reason We Shouldn’t, we meet two young skaters, Olivia Kennedy and Jonah Choi. Olivia is a former Junior World Champion Pairs figure skater, whose foray into the Senior division went so badly that at the age of fifteen, she is a washed-up has-been, going to regular school and giving lessons at the ice skating rink owned by her parents. Her parents, who were Olympic Gold Medallists…
