This HaBO comes from Lucy, who has a bit of a complicated request as the romance takes place amidst a whole host of other things: I write with a request that haunts me. It’s one of the earliest sex-positive narratives I read, probably in high school (maybe college? I know, I know) and I loved it. Here’s the thing, though: it’s embedded in a multigenerational family saga, which makes it hard to find. I don’t think it’s in One Hundred Years of Solitude; I will kick myself if it is. Maybe Isabel Allende? but it doesn’t match any of hers that I remember reading. Laura Esquivel but not Like Water for Chocolate? The multigenerational family lives in a giant house (possibly a hacienda.) The soldier protagonist is extremely handsome — some details never fade! — and proud of his body. This contributes to the fact that, when he loses a leg in war, it’s extremely traumatic for him. He holes up in his bedroom and not even the cook’s (?) best soups can lure him out. The family loves him but they’re at a loss: he won’t talk; he won’t eat; the doctor can’t find anything physically wrong. Enter our…

We’re kicking off our Best of 2019 with our bestselling sales! From today until Friday, we’re counting down the books that you all bought through our affiliate links (thanks so much for that). This isn’t a definitive list as we’re only including books that are still priced at $3.99 or less. We also have the Best Reviews, Best Cover Snark, and Best Podcasts of 2019!  Slightly Married Slightly Married by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Bedwyn Saga, which is a favorite amongst romance readers. Though Balogh’s newer historicals haven’t really worked for me, I’m curious about this one. Have you read it? Meet the Bedwyns…six brothers and sisters—men and women of passion and privilege, daring and sensuality…Enter their dazzling world of high society and breathtaking seduction…where each will seek love, fight temptation, and court scandal…and where Aidan Bedwyn, the marriage-shy second son, discovers that matrimony may be the most seductive act of all.… Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heart—and it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier’s request. Having…

This HaBO is from Meagan, a librarian who is trying to help out a patron: I’m a librarian who’s trying to help one of my readers find an audiobook she remembers listening to last year, but can’t remember the title. I’ve done some digging, but no luck so far. I’ll include the details below, and hope that it rings some bells for you or that you’d be willing to put a call out to the bitchery. Thanks, and happy reading!! It’s a historical set in the 1800s or perhaps 1900s in a shipyard, or perhaps on the docks. The heroine has an affair with a man she believes is, in my patron’s terms, a “hobo,” although I think she’s using this a general term for a laborer or lower class man. It turns out he’s an aristocrat who attended Eton. The only other thing she remembers is that the narrator was male. Not a lot to go on, but I thought I’d give it a try! Why is this so familiar to me?!

One of the reasons I believed in RWA was because I saw how hard my friend, Courtney Milan, worked to push the organization’s inclusiveness. Today, the day before Christmas Eve, RWA notified her they’d agreed with ethics complaints filed against her for calling out racism. — Alyssa!!! Cole (@AlyssaColeLit) December 24, 2019 Disclaimer, first and foremost : I live at 341’ elevation above sea level. Currently I am with my family, at 8000’+ elevation, and I do indeed miss all that lovely oxygen. So please forgive any missing words or slight incoherence over here. Earlier tonight Alyssa Cole posted that the Romance Writers of America received an ethics complaint against Courtney Milan. You can see the documents here, here and here: The formal complaint from Suzan Tisdale Part II of complaint Formal complaint from Kathryn Lynn Davis RWA’s Ethics Committee Report Result of RWA Board’s vote on the report RWA has “moved to accept the findings of the Ethics Committee” and has recommended as penalty that Milan be suspended from RWA for a year, and be banned from holding any leadership positions on the national or chapter level. Courtney’s response: I’ve been trying to figure out what I feel. It…
