Highland Promise RECOMMENDED: Highland Promise by Alyson McLayne is $2.99! This is the first book in The Sons of Gregor MacLeod series and the other books are also on sale. I read this one and gave it a B+: If you love a Disney princess, in all their saccharine, animal-loving, pure-of-heart glory, you’ll love Caitlin. If you have a weakness for kilted heroes, there’s plenty of plaid to go around. It’s a pretty pleasing start to a new series and worth a shot, especially since the cover model has some Sam Heughan vibes, don’t you think? Five boys destined to become Highland lairds are fostered together as brothers. Darach, Lachlan, Callum, Gavin and Kerr fight for their clans, for each other, and for their own true loves. When forced to choose between duty and honor… Darach MacKenzie vowed never again to let a woman near his heart after his betrothed betrayed him. It sparked an intense feud between his clan and the Frasers. With all-out war on the wind, Darach can’t be distracted—not even by a sweet and charming lass who desperately needs his help. This Highland Laird will find a way to have both… When Darach rescued Caitlin MacInnes from…

C- A Lady in Disguise by Lynsay Sands June 25, 2019 · Avon Contemporary RomanceRomance If A Lady in Disguise is ever made into a movie, and it does not star Carole Lombard, I’ll be very disappointed. True, Lombard died in 1942, but why must we quibble over such small details? This book is a screwball comedy romance that revolves around a Big Misunderstanding. I’m not fond of Big Misunderstandings but I do believe in the maxim “Go big or go home,” and while I was not crazy about the book I have to admit that it certainly commits to its premise. The set up is that Lady Maggie Wentworth has to raise some extra money after her brother dies in the Napoleonic Wars. He used to write for The Daily Express under the initials G.W. and no one knew who he really was. Maggie takes over the column, using the initials, and is assigned to interview women at a brothel – the very same establishment in which the famous Lady X works. Who is Lady X, that irresistible courtesan who is highly cultured and always wears a red mask? As one of my aunties likes to say, “All will be…

HaBO: Sin & Danger

This HaBO request comes from Caroline, who is looking for this historical romance series: So I’ve been searching for this novel/series and haven’t been able to turn anything up on my own. Here’s everything (and I mean everything!) I remember about the book(s): It’s a historical romance trilogy about three sisters. I think one of them might be named Kate, and there’s one whose nickname is something like Syn or Cyn. S/Cyn is the wild one of the three, and her book’s hero is named Harry or something that starts with an H—but his nickname is “Danger,” so they’re “sin and danger” (get it?). I remember almost nothing about the plot except that at the end S/Cyn has left the city to live alone in a house on a hill, and Harry manages to find out where she’s gone and goes to dramatically confess his love for her. After he does so, she reveals that she’s pregnant. I read it back in the 2000s, and unfortunately I can’t remember anything about the other two books in the trilogy. I know it’s not much but I’m dying to figure out what these books are! The Cyn/Syn nickname feels very familiar.

No, you don’t have your days wrong and you aren’t hallucinating! Because we get so many HaBO requests, we’ll be running them periodically on Saturdays. We didn’t think you’d mind more HaBOs. This HaBO is from Suzanne who is looking for a Regency (or otherwise historically set) romance: Short haired, willowy heroine – why is it that the silly facts stick in my head? Anyhoo – I’m looking for a Regency type romance novel. The heroine is sort of boyish-looking – short hair, flat chest, etc. She falls in love with the hero and they marry. Somewhere along the way the hero “dies.” She is distressed and mourns him deeply. His friends take care of her and after some time – 2 years perhaps? – encourage her to find someone new. During that time, though, her short hair has grown long and luxurious and her curves have filled out. She gives in to the peer pressure and allows the advances of another guy. They are in her bedroom and she changes her mind. At the same time, her long lost love reappears. He’s furious to find her with someone else, which of course ruins any tenderness she felt at seeing…

Last time I checked, it was supposed to be summer in the States. Admittedly, I hate summer, but I can also understand the frustration of wanting great sunny weather and it just raining the whole time. If you’re in an area where the weather can’t quite figure its shit out, this drink is for you! Regardless of the temps and conditions outside, hopefully this will make you feel like you’re sitting on a warm beach. June’s cocktail is inspired by Kingdom of Exiles by Maxym M. Martineau! I reviewed this new fantasy romance earlier this week and found it to be really fun. A good portion of the book is set in Ortega Key, a fictional beach town with a few islands off its coast. I loved it and I really wanted to replicate both the setting and the enjoyment I had while reading. A | BN | AB The Ortega Bay cocktail is essentially a boozy, tropical blue slush. Perfect for hot weather or just trying to engage in some wish fulfillment if the sun doesn’t want to cooperate. I ran into the author at Book Lover’s Con this year and picked her brain about her favorite alcohol. She’s…

The Serpent The Serpent by Sarah Fine is $1.99 at Amazon! This is the first book in the urban fantasy Immortal Dealers series. I mentioned it on a previous Hide Your Wallet and it’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. Like with many new urban fantasy series, it can be a rocky start as readers get their footing with the worldbuilding. And this one is no exception, but readers say it ultimately delivers. One woman is in a world of otherworldly trouble—and she’s going to have to bet her life to save humankind. Ernestine “Ernie” Terwilliger has put her dreams aside to look after her eccentric mother. Case in point: saving her from a mysterious stranger who’s just stormed the terrified woman’s antique store wearing a rattlesnake tattoo, leveling threats, and brandishing the weirdest deck of cards Ernie’s ever seen. When Ernie grabs some of the cards and runs, she’s launched into a world she never knew existed—one her mother may know more about than she’s revealing. With a handful of stolen cards, Ernie has just been made an unwilling player in a game of good versus evil. But she’s not even playing with a full deck, and its original owner is more than happy…
